Roman Polanski’s Pirates

Le Galion Neptune

Genoa, Italy.

[Comment from the architects hence the word ”vessel”]

This vessel, at the time, the most expensive film "prop" in the world, was designed and

constructed for Carthago Films for the Roman Polanski film "Pirates".

The vessel was built in Tunisia, based on a steel sub-hull with diesel powered

multi-directional thrusters.

The vessel is, in actual fact, much larger than a typical galleon of the period at over 60m.

All the rigging and sails are operational. Neptune proved

extremely successful and can now be seen moored in Mediterranean ports as a tourist attraction.

Le Galion Neptune.

As seen in Pirates and is moored in Genoa. It moves to other ports for special occasions but when that is or how special the occasions are, I don’t know. As you can see from the image below the size of the boat is quite amazing. No expense was spared from what I’ve seen in these pictures
