POPSICLE RETURNS

Japan

Cancelled after the distributor (S. Golds) went out of business, that HMV 7 disc Lemon Popsicle set is back on for a release the middle of November here

There are other sets and single releases UK wide including from the Jersey based Play.com here and Amazon UK here

A few nice promos I’ve gotten in the last few weeks. Covers most of Cannon from the earlier days, the 1980s, 1990s at Cannon Pictures and

of course, Pathe. Like all other Pathe material they weren’t sure if they were MGM, MGM-Pathe, Cannon Entertainment or just Pathe.

I’ll be getting some photos of the contents when time permits.

newest (and last) VHS I’ve seen from Cannon, from 1994) and from West Germany, Ginger and Fred (1986).

Alexander Ramati's The Desperate Ones (1968) gets added to the Cannon A-Z. Released through Cannon here in the UK and it had a

UK VHS/Betamax/V2000 release from Rank. The Desperate Ones (1968) had a release in the US as Beyond the Mountains.

Ramati worked with Cannon again on The Assisi Underground (1985)

I’ve not had time to to start the Cannon Stars Stallone Gallery. Anyone want to get it going? If you have a load of images ready to

upload or want to do some work to get things goings let me know. It’ll be images from Cobra (1986) and Over the Top (1987). Photos, scripts,

On the subject of Freeway Maniac (1989), does anyone have information on the UK home video release? I can’t find anything. The film may have

been released as ‘Breakdown’.

IS SPIDER-MAN

OK, maybe not but is that what Cannon had in mind? Matthew Daniels has penned a great article on the Cannon Could Have Been, Spider-Man.

With input from Spider-Man writer Ted Newsom we get some great insights into what really could have been, had Cannon made Spider-Man.

Ben, Bonzo and Big Bad Joe became: Going Bananas (1987) AKA My African Adventure

Duet for One (1986) would be made minus Dunaway.

Citizen Joe would have been a follow-up to Joe (1970)

Number One with a Bullet (1987) was made but had no sign of Belushi.

320. Christopher Reeve Hero Costume from Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)

“(Warner Bros., 1987) This four-piece costume consists of a long-sleeve leotard of blue and red stretch jersey, with chest emblazoned with the trademark Superman “S” in yellow and red; red briefs with belt loops (belt not present) and a Bermans & Nathans label typed “Christopher Reeve 4913 Walking Superman IV”; a pair of blue stretch nylon pants with matching label; cape of scarlet wool with padded shoulders, the back having another Superman “S” logo with similar label, and a pair of red knee-length leather boots with zipper closures, inscribed in black felt pen “C4?. Each piece has a matching label with matching production numbers. Worn by Christopher Reeve in the fourth installment of the Superman series of films from the late 1970s / 1980s. In this film, Superman fights Lex Luthor’s diabolical creation, Nuclear Man, an android of superhuman strength powered by the sun. The “Walking” notation in this costume identifies it as one of the close-up or hero costumes, and the entire garment and boots remain in excellent condition. Easily one of the most recognizable costumes in Hollywood history, this is without question the best Christopher Reeve Superman costume to ever come to auction!”

I’ve not seen that for sale very often so was happy to get a hold of it. I’ll re-photograph it later when I do all my posters.

I first seen that poster in the foyer of the Dundee Cannon cinema. More than 22 years ago…

JAPAN

Just in case you were wondering what a Cannon NTSC VHS tape looked like from Japan. That’s The Sicilian Connection (1985).

Managed to get a hold of the US one sheet cinema poster too. Damiano Damiani's film has had a couple of DVD releases in Germany

and Italy with its original name of Pizza Connection (1985). Cecchi Gori Home Video handled the Italian release I've seen. 16:9 in Italian only.

This was another in a long line of movies Cannon International had dubbed for the US market. I'm not sure who released this in the UK on

home video but it was MGM in the US.
